Does God Make People Sick?
This powerful teaching confronts one of the most confusing questions many believers face: Does God make people sick? We've all heard scriptures that seem to say God smites with disease, that He sends plagues, that He uses sickness as punishment. Yet we also know Him as our Healer, the One who sent His Son to bear our infirmities. How do we reconcile these seemingly contradictory truths? The answer lies in understanding the difference between God passing judgment and God being the source of destruction. When we examine passages like Exodus 12 and Deuteronomy 28, we discover something crucial: there are two players in these narratives. God, the righteous Judge, and the destroyer, the enemy of our souls. When the Israelites were protected by blood on their doorposts, God didn't allow the destroyer to touch them. The judgment fell on Egypt, but not on God's people. This distinction changes everything. Our disobedience may open doors that allow the enemy access, but God Himself is not the author of our suffering. He's the One who provided the serpent on the pole, the blood on the doorpost, and ultimately His own Son on the cross. When we repent, mercy is available. When we confess, cleansing comes. We are covered by the blood of Jesus, and the curse is not for us. Understanding this truth sets us free to receive the healing that's already been purchased for us.
