CHRIST THE HEALER- IF THE CRUMBS WERE ENOUGH

This teaching takes us deep into the miracle of the Syrophoenician woman whose daughter was tormented by a demon, found in Mark 7 and Matthew 15. At first glance, this story might seem puzzling—Jesus appears to ignore her, the disciples want her sent away, and He even seems to call her a dog. Yet by the end, her daughter is completely healed. What made the difference? The answer lies not in luck or timing, but in the woman's remarkable transformation from religious mimicry to genuine faith. She initially approached Jesus with borrowed language, repeating what she'd heard others say, much like many of us who try to follow formulas and steps rather than truly encountering Christ. But something shifted when she fell down in worship—it became personal, her own revelation rather than someone else's. Jesus wasn't being cruel; He was addressing root issues, not just symptoms. Her lifestyle had opened doors to demonic oppression in her home, and Jesus wanted lasting freedom, not just temporary relief. When she humbly acknowledged her unworthiness yet persisted in faith, declaring that even crumbs from the Master's table would be enough, Jesus commended her great faith. This story challenges us to examine whether we're living off borrowed faith or have made Jesus our own, whether we're addressing root issues or just treating symptoms, and whether we'll let disappointment or religious hurt keep us from pressing through to our miracle. The woman's persistence, humility, and genuine worship positioned her to receive what she desperately needed—and the same pathway remains open to us today.
